The research tree is the progression system the official description names. It is not a side menu you can skip if you want the next mine.

The Roblox description confirms research unlocks the next zone. The third-party guide dated 15 October names Luck, Fracture, Strike and crew-slot milestones, and says zone boards are separate. I rechecked its text on 17 October. Those observations support the checklist below, but not a universal cost-efficiency ranking.

An upgrade order for the next gate

  • Read the current gate requirement and research board before buying. Work on the current zone, not an older board.
  • Follow the unfinished required path toward 100%. Luck, Fracture and Strike are recorded names, not a fixed order to buy on every account.
  • Check the cash shown on the gate. Budget for that fee and inspect the next shop when it opens; no sourced table here predicts the combined cost.
  • If a milestone adds a crew slot, fill it and recheck the lineup before judging the next damage purchase.
  • After entering a new zone, inspect its own research board. For The Hallowkeep specifically, the developer requires every Soulforge research first.

  • Zone boards are separate. Clearing zone 1 does not clear zone 2.
  • Milestones on the recorded board add crew slots.
  • The Hallowkeep has its own research tree, and it also has its own Colossus.
  • Opening Hallowkeep still requires every Soulforge research first.

What should I buy first?

If the next mine is the goal, check the unfinished path required by its gate first. The available records do not establish a single best Luck/Fracture/Strike order or a full node-price list.

Do I need to finish the Index?

The recorded progression guide separates Index completion from the research-and-fee gate. Hallowkeep Index completion instead awards a base skin in the official notes.

Did Update 5 move Colossus out of this menu?

Colossus level moved to the zone board and out of Settings. The research tree is still the zone-unlock system.
